San Antonio

Photo crop exposure date: Unknown
Exposure date (or window) of subject photo: ca. 1900
Subject: Photo crop of a scene in the San Antonio River just downstream (west) of the lower Navarro Street Bridge. View is WNW. Taken from the Navarro Street Bridge showcasing a maintenance activity necessary to wooden vehicles called “soaking.” The spokes and felloe of the wheel, if allowed to dry, would shrink. The spokes would loosen and the metal “tire” (the rim) around the outside of the wheel (the felloe) would slip off.
